The risks of overseas dogs

We recognise and understand why many animal lovers in the UK are opting to rescue stray animals from overseas, with the hope of giving them loving homes here in the UK.

However, imported dogs may pose inadvertent, long-term consequences to the health and welfare of the UK’s pets, as well as to humans.

At present, the UK is rabies free, but the greater number of dogs that are imported, the greater the risk that rabies, and other diseases, will enter the UK population.
